Mr McMillan performed a BSSB Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy on my daughter in December 2022. In simple terms, her lower jaw was re-positioned so that her top teeth would sit in front of her bottom teeth when her mouth was closed. This was to prevent long term wear of her teeth and to improve her facial profile. Prior to the operation, her bottom jaw looked too far forwards and her ‘bite’ was incorrect with her bottom teeth sitting in front of her top teeth. We cannot thank Mr McMillan and his team enough for their care, professionalism, skill and pre/post surgery support. The outcome for my daughter has been fantastic. Her facial profile has greatly improved and visually, no one would ever know she has had jaw surgery; all the surgery is done from inside the mouth. From the outset, Mr Mcmillan was kind, caring and patient. He fully explained what surgery was required and gave us time to digest and decide on whether to go ahead. He fully appreciated our nervousness and was fully supportive throughout, answering all our questions and making himself available whenever we needed to speak to him. Working closely with an orthodontist at the Westbourne Centre, my daughter’s teeth were optimally positioned with braces prior to the jaw surgery and then ‘finely tuned’ post surgery. The actual jaw operation was done in a day and my daughter was home a day later. She suffered little pain and any swelling reduced quite quickly. The whole process (orthodontic and jaw surgery) was completed in 18 months. In summary, I would say the surgery has been life changing for my daughter. Her teeth and jaw look perfect and this has had a massively positive effect on her confidence and self esteem. We would highly recommend Mr McMillan and his Jaw Surgery team to anyone who has similar issues to the ones my daughter had.
